Pyramid Tennis Association, Inc.
(PTA)

A Program That Cares!

The Association's tennis program is conducted three times a week, three hours a session during the summer, and twice a week, two hours a session in the winter, under the supervision of highly qualified tennis instructors.

Utilizing the "Buddy System," the youngsters are taught:

  • Basic ground rules with and without the use of racket
  • Hand-eye contact and footwork
  • Exercise - moving laterally to and from the net
  • Basic strokes - forehand, backhand, serve, volley
Each youngster is expected to develop tennis skills according to the United Tennis Association's certificate rating system.

Exceptionally skilled players are aided and encouraged to use their talent as a means of furthering their education by obtaining a college athletic scholarship or playing professionally.

But Pyramid Tennis Association's program goes beyond the development of values and teaching tennis. It also oversees the youngsters' total educational experience.

Each youngster who participates in the program is required to maintain normal school attendance and increate their reading and scholastic achievement levels at a normal rate.

Recognizing that youngsters need constant encouragement and indications of concern, the Association, through an informal arrangement with guidance counselors and teachers in the participating schools, regularly checks each youngster's grades and attendance.

Counseling and tutoring is provided on a regular basis for those youngsters who require it.
